Biography Norway’s only Blues band featuring two brothers and their sons...... Yes, you read right. This unique lineup is the result of long term planning where the band’s two brothers, Vidar and Jan Erik, early in the 70’s decided to influence their sons to follow in their fathers footsteps musically! The brothers Vidar; guitar/vocals and Jan Erik; bass/harmonica/vocal had played together in various bands for many years when the idea of a pure blues band presented itself. Instruments were purchased and hours, weeks and years of intensive practice followed. This has brought results and the bandmembers are today well known, respected and have a lot of live/studio experience. Bernt A. Moen; son of Vidar, Organ/piano has studied music at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, at Berklee College of Music in Boston, at the Conservatory of Music in Kristiansand, as well as at the National College of Music in Oslo. Bernt has his own jazz trio and works as a fulltime freelance musician. Bernt has done most of the arrangements on the band’s cd entitled; “Tell me why”. Mike Thomas Moen, son of Jan Erik, drums/percussion, has also studied at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. He is known as one of Norway’s leading shuffledrummers. Mike runs, in addition to being a professional musician, his own company, specializing in PA systems and lighting. Vidar Moen, father of Bernt, guitar/vocals, has almost 40 solid years of musical experience behind him. He is also highly respected as one of the leading blues guitarists and he has studied in depth all the masters. He is also a highly accomplished guitarbuilder, and plays on Moen guitars exclusively. Jan Erik Moen, father of Mike, bass/harmonica/vocals, has been a musician “all his life”. He has been the driving force behind many successful bands that has received local as well as national recognition. Jan Erik is known as the first blues musician in Kristiansand and also the founder of Kristiansand’s first blues club; “Blues lovers club”. Mike and the Blue Family’s debut cd; “Tell me why”, has gotten great reviews. The cd contains all original material and has been presented in Hoviks Hangar, P1, P3, P4, NRK TV, NRK 2, TV NORGE, and international radiostations. In addition to the original material, the band has varied Blues repertoire, meld different stylistic elements within the blues context and draw inspiration from old and new blueslegends. MBF is a very much a live band and has received great press reviews for their live shows and has performed as the supporting band for Joe Cocker!
